hierarchy

“I’ve created a monster and I'd like to know how to tame it!”

That’s what someone posted in Kit’s Facebook group the other day, describing the chaos they’d accidentally built with too many entry points to their email list.

And honestly? Most of us have been there.

We’re full of creative ideas, generous instincts, and a desire to be helpful.

So we add… and add… and add.

More lead magnets.

More automated sequences.

(One for each new idea).

Until what started as a great intention becomes a gnarly, confusing beast.

But here’s the thing I’ve come to realize from helping dozens of clients 1:1 with their email marketing setups.

It’s rarely the number of entry points that causes the problem.

The real issue? A lack of hierarchy.

When your system doesn’t know what should take priority - or what to pause when something else happens - that’s when it falls apart.

For example, yesterday I wrapped up a full Kit buildout for a client - a team of educators who’ve unintentionally become SaaS business owners.

They have three entry points to their email list:

  1. Newsletter
  2. Free trial of their membership
  3. Paid membership

The newsletter and the free trial each have their own email sequence - a welcome sequence for the newsletter, and an onboarding sequence for the free trial.

But since the priority is getting people to buy the membership, there’s a clear hierarchy.

The onboarding sequence takes priority over the welcome sequence, so if someone signs up for both, they’re automatically pulled out of the welcome sequence.

And if they purchase a membership? No need to sell them on something they’ve already bought. The sales emails stop, and they’re welcomed as a paying member.

But what if you have multiple freebies with no clear hierarchy?

(Which is the case with plenty of my other clients.)

There are multiple ways to tackle this, which we always address on a case-by-case basis.

But regardless of the approach, the goal is always the same:

Simplicity. Ease.Confidence.

Not a monster of a system that's making your work harder, but a clear, calm flow that you trust and your subscribers appreciate.

If you’ve ever looked at your email marketing setup and wondered if you’re overcomplicating it let’s talk.

No pressure, no judgment - because really, most of us have been there! - just clarity about next steps.

Take it one step at a time,
Bev
