One sunny Thursday afternoon at the beginning of September I signed in my Zoom account, feeling super jazzed for my business friend, Elise Enriquez, to log in.
If you haven't met Elise, she's one of the most genuine, thoughtful people I know. The kind of person who leaves you with an extra pep in your step after every call.
On this particular Thursday, Elise had hired me for a Power Hour so that she could get some issues inside of her Kit account resolved.
After she entered the Zoom room and spent a few minutes chatting about our last few weeks of summer, Elise pulled up her website and Kit account and walked me through the various ways people come onto her email list.
As someone who cares deeply about consent and creating a thoughtful onboarding process for welcoming in new subscribers, it was clear that there was something in Elise's setup that wasn't matching her intentions.
In some cases, people were confused about what they’d signed up. In other cases, they didn’t receive reminder emails about her monthly Productivity Shift sessions.
This understandably shook her confidence.
Honestly, it's the kind of thing can make even the most seasoned business owner hesitate before hitting “send.”
Luckily, she had me to talk through the strategy and resolve the technical issues. 😉
During our hour together, I was able to uncover why some people weren’t receiving reminder emails - and fix that - as well as update her automation that welcomes new subscribers to ensure that people already on her list don't also get it.
Elise ended that hour feeling so much better.
“I feel confident now that I can pull this off,” she told me. “Now that it’s set up, it’s just taken care of - and my people are going to get treated the way I want them to get treated.”
Because here's the thing with email marketing: if people don't actually receive your emails, even the most amazing copy won't get you very far.
As Elise shared, “There’s one kind of confidence in writing the content - and another in knowing it’ll reach the right people.”
I see this all the time.
Brilliant, highly skilled business owners second-guessing themselves because the tech isn’t doing its part.
