(Not so) typical new year stuff

Happy New Year, Reader!

I just returned with my family from (mostly) sunny Florida to frigid Boston, trading warm breezes for so many layers of winter clothing.

While the temperature drop has been a shock to the system, it’s comforting to be able walk everywhere again instead of being tethered to a car.

And a brisk 20-minute when the air feels like it’s in the single digits - or negative single digits for all the celsius-oriented folks - is oddly invigorating.

These transitions from warm to cold, from driving to walking have me thinking about shifts I'm choosing to make as we enter 2025.

I'll confess: I don’t do New Year's resolutions.

January 1st feels like an arbitrary starting point, especially here in Boston where the frigid temperatures and short days make me want to hunker down under blankets with my ceramic penguin mug and escape into a beach read.

But over the past few weeks, while I wasn't actively working, I found myself diving into content consumption mode:

Inhaling trainings from Lizzy Goddard's Everything Offer that I hemmed and hawed about purchasing in December since it very much wasn't in the budget. (So many ideas from what I've listened to so far!)

Working through Jessica Lackey's Core Foundations course inside of her Deeper Business membership.

The break from routine and from doing work gave me a fresh perspective and so many ideas for ways I can support people with Kit and email marketing strategy.

I was pumped to dive back into work yesterday as my kids returned to school.

But then something happened yesterday afternoon….

As I bounced throughout the day from content consumption during my morning walk, to reflection on the previous year in the morning and fighting Google sheets to create a pie chart of my revenue sources, to creating course content after lunch, to planning out upcoming projects in the late afternoon, I noticed a familiar anxiety creeping in.

That's when it hit me: I need to leave behind the constant mode-switching that's been draining my energy.

I can't effectively toggle between being a student, a strategist, and a creator all in the same day.

What I'm bringing forward: flow and accessibility

Instead of this toggle dance which leaves me feel overwhelmed, in 2025 I'm embracing distinct seasons of work. I'm giving myself permission to be fully in content consumption mode sometimes – it's less active brainwork and pairs beautifully with walks, chores, or puzzle time.

When the creation energy flows - as it is this week - I'm riding that wave too, especially as I record the lessons for my new Kit for Beginner's program.

And I need to set block off an entire day every month or so for review and reflection.

Something else that’s also evolving in 2025? My business model (to some degree):

  1. I'm keeping my beloved 1:1 work (though I'll be raising the prices at some point this year) because I cherish the deep relationship-building and complex problem-solving it allows.
  2. I'm expanding into more accessible options: continuing with free content (like this newsletter), self-study digital products, live courses & workshops, and group programs like the Kit Accelerator because teaching also invigorates me.

For 2025, my focus is starting to become sharper:

  • Deepening relationships and being better about consistently staying in touch with my network since much of my revenue comes through referrals and communities
  • Experimenting with strategies to grow my email list

Also: no more trying to do everything at once.

Take it one step at a time,
